Unsatisfied

Posted by caldwell16 on 8/3/2009

After spending several thousand dollars to have our fence installed, both of our dogs collars came off in the woods and we were unable to locate them. Replacement collars cost $329 if you are unable to trade in the old one. They come with a lifetime warranty but exclude loss and there is no option to buy insurance for collars in case they are lost. If they're going to cost this much, there should be a way to insure them. This is highway robbery. Would not recommend getting the fence installed if you have other local companies to use and would check on their policies for lost collars before purchasing a system.

Invisible Fence of South Louisiana

Posted by tshows on 6/29/2009

While the fence works fine, my dealings with Invisible Fence of South Louisiana have all been bad. From installation through ordering batteries for my dogs collar, nothing was ever what was advertised or promised. Always out of products, including the wire to do the originial installation to the batteries I am still waiting of to be delivered after 3 weeks. I would not do business with this company. Part of building clientel is the customer support aspect. This company falls short on this basic concept.

poor dog

I feel sorry for this dog that it has to spend the rest of it's life on a leash. As for the price, the average vet bill for a dog getting hit by a car (if it survives) is $3,000. My fence cost well under 1/2 that and I have a Havanese and a German Shepherd mix on half acre. Well worth it. My dogs are happy and well excercised in their yard.

Not Safe for Small Dogs

Posted by doggiemama on 11/4/2008

It's important for the owners of small dogs to understand that there are limitations when it comes to invisible fencing. It is particularly dangerous for small dogs to be confined with invisible fencing if there are large dogs loose in the area. Your dog may be trained to the invisible fence, but dogs outside the fence are not, and there's nothing to stop them from entering your yard and injuring your pet. Even with leash laws, it's not good to assume that this type of situation won't happen. Best to be safe and use traditional fencing. (And, no, I'm not a fence salesperson. I'm a pet owner and I've seen what can happen to a small dog that has been attacked by another dog within the confines of an invisible fence.) Another major issue with invisible fencing is that dogs with high prey drive are apt to forget their training if they see a squirrel or rabbit on the other side of the fencing. They WILL go after it. Should they manage to get beyond the invisible barrier, they will NOT want to come back through, because there is no longer motivation to do so. If you aren't home to remove their collar and guide them back in, they will sit outside the barrier for hours. If they tire of waiting, they could wander off and become lost or injured. As with any form of enclosure, it is imperative that a responsible pet owner watch their pet and do everything in their power to ensure the pets safety. No type of fencing is failsafe, but invisible fencing has more safety concerns than traditional fencing, and as a caring pet owner, I would not recommend it for this reason. Sadly, many people choose invisible fencing because they refuse to "marr" the appearance of their pristine yard. This is not a good reason to use invisible fencing. In any case, dog owners should always supervise their pets while outdoors when using an invisible fence.

Response from Invisible Fence Brand

With all due respect to doggiemamma, I feel compelled to respond to her review. As the owner of Invisible Fence Lehigh Valley and a life long pet owner / dog lover as well as user of my product I could not disagree more with what she has written! Having been in this business for 16 years we a company that puts both the safety and welfare of our client's dogs first! I can confidently state we are in the business of saving pet's lives. I have installed over 6,000 Invisible Fence Brand systems in the Greater Lehigh Valley and have safely contained over 10,000 dogs and over 300 cats. Nearly 50 veterinarians use Invisible Fencing for their own pets. I have never had a single report of a customer's pet being attacked in their yard while using my product. On the issue of dogs leaving their containment area and then not wanting to re-enter the yard doggiemamma has identified what happens when the pet is not properly trained. Proper training eliminates such problems and as long as the product is used as recommended all dogs will stay in their yard. I provide training for every fence we install and that training is done by Certified Trainers to insure the desire result. We are the ONLY electronic pet fence company to offer our product with an in contract one year, money back, containment guarantee! Reputation is everything and I am committed to keeping all of my client's pets safe!

extremely over priced

Posted by chrisinsav on 8/13/2008

Invisible fence is extremely over priced, The average price for a home with one dog will cost 1400 to 1800 dollars for equipment that costs less than a 100 dollars, anybody would be wise to contact a local, lesser known companies that would cost less than half of invisible fence and provide much better service and quality, Installing a dog containment system yourself is quite easy and will cost 120 to 150 dollars, A professional company will try to talk you out of it,and list dozens of different situations that could possible happen if you do it yourself, but there all just creative ways to get you out of your money, After receiving a quote from invisible fence for 2100 dollars for a home with two dogs, I decided to do it myself. It took me 3 hours with a edger and a small shovel, and cost a total of 155 dollars. I also found most landscapers would be happy to install a dog containment system if the customer were to purchase the equipment which can be found at any home depot or lowes or bass pro shop a complete system will cost about 99 dollars plus tax

I'm sorry you feel that our service is over priced. While it's true that a professionally installed Invisible Fence does cost more than a store-bought system, it's not a fair comparison. Invisible Fence equipment costs quite a bit more than $100, is far superior to what can be purchased in Home Depot and is installed by professionals who are trained not only in the proper way to install the system, but more importantly to train the dog. There is a reason Invisible Fence brand has been around for 35 years and has over 30,000 satisfied customers in Florida alone. If it was as easy and inexpensive as you suggest, the marketplace would have long ago put us out of business. Instead, we have a 99.9% approval rating and have built our business on customer referrals.
